Context: I partnered with a small business focused on early language development to design a self-paced eLearning course for caregivers of children ages birth to three. Through the needs analysis, I identified a gap between what caregivers were already doing and what they needed to do to intentionally support vocabulary development. Caregivers were already talking, reading, playing, and engaging with their children throughout the day, but many lacked a clear, repeatable strategy for turning those interactions into intentional vocabulary-building opportunities. The root cause was a knowledge and skill gap: caregivers wanted to support language development but didn’t know how to select vocabulary strategically, provide repeated exposure across different contexts, check for comprehension, and reinforce words until children could begin using them independently. The training was designed to close that gap by giving caregivers a simple, practical system they could integrate into routines they were already doing.
Challenge: Children from birth to three are not receiving enough intentional, high-quality language exposure during daily interactions, leading to delayed or limited vocabulary development.
Solution: A self-paced eLearning course built around a six-step framework for intentional vocabulary building. Caregivers apply it directly to daily routines like mealtime, play, and reading, using at least three target words per routine to strengthen their child's language development.
